Brett Landscaping continues to strengthen our professional working relationship with DP World to provide a reliable, durable, and practical solution at the latter’s newly developed, high-traffic seaport.

The Project:

Located in Stanford-le-Hope in Essex, DP World’s London Gateway Port operation comprises the construction of deep-water berth alongside commercial and warehousing units. These units handle the logistics of transporting the goods shipped into the Port throughout the rest of the United Kingdom. The London Gateway Port was initially opened in 2013, and since its operations commenced, DP World has regularly updated and developed its work environment and Brett Landscaping have worked alongside DP World and their strategic partners on various solutions over the last decade.

Brett Landscaping played a crucial role by providing an innovative solution to DP World’s most recent requirements, part of their overall 400-acre development of the Port complex, logistic park, and transportation links.

DP World’s initiative was to develop both the Port side of the development with the construction of its deep–water berths along with building the logistic and distribution parks in close proximity to the Port. To achieve this, Brett Landscaping was able to provide their Omega 80mm thick rectangular block paving in Charcoal and Natural Grey to provide robust, hard-standing areas on the landside logistic developments of the port which would withstand the damaging effects placed on the pavements with the constant trafficking of heavy goods vehicles. Rectangular block paving also provides a surface which has a lower whole life cost than using other surfacing materials due to the ease of reinstatement and maintenance throughout the pavement’s lifetime.

Omega Charcoal & Natural

The Solution:

Brett Landscaping was chosen for the project based on their extensive expertise and support which had already been provided to the designers with their work on the deep-water berths. Brett was also able to provide a suitable solution to ease the concerns of DP World by providing Omega Block Paving to the land side section of the development.

Omega Block Paving is available in two thicknesses for commercial applications and has previously been used in numerous industrial settings, including heavy duty applications such as HGV yards, docks, ports, and roads as well as lighter applications such as car parking bays, driveways, and footpaths. With Omega’s robust design and ability to be installed in an interlocking rectangular herringbone pattern it is also available in an extensive range of colours, permeable options, and associated accessories. Omega is a popular range for use in high-traffic areas like DP World’s London Gateway Port.

Brett Landscaping’s products successfully addressed the challenge of heavy-duty loadings on the running aisles and storage areas, typical of a busy distribution and logistic units. Using the two-coloured blocks (Charcoal and Natural) together also meant that this project was able to demarcate Electric Charging Bays, Car Share Bays, Disabled Bays, and access areas within the pavement.
