Brett Landscaping collaborates with DP World providing a durable and reliable solution for the demanding requirements of a busy port environment.

Client: DP World, London Gateway Port
Product: Zeta Lock Block Paving

The Project:

DP World’s deep sea port and logistics park located in London Gateway Stanford-le-Hope, Essex, embarked on a monumental project to create deep-water berths along the River Thames. This initiative aimed to facilitate the efficient and safe offloading of some of the world’s largest vessels on a site which combines modern warehousing space with a logistics park, equivalent in size to 400 football pitches is the biggest of its kind in Europe.

Brett Landscaping played a crucial role by providing their innovative Zeta Lock Concrete Block Paving for the dockside projects, creating a structurally sound platform for stacking containers offloaded from cargo ships. The primary purpose of the project was to establish a robust platform capable of withstanding the turning forces and heavy loads imposed by containers and equipment during stacking operations.

The Solution:

Brett Landscaping was chosen for the project based on their technical expertise, local presence, and the suitability of their product solution – the 16-sided, interlocking Zeta Lock. Zeta Lock was chosen due to its exceptional structural performance combined with a speciailist mixed design developed for heavy trafficking associated with port applications. The elastic modulus, created by the interlocking of this unique 16 sided block, provides greater rigidity of the pavement surface compared to standard rectangular block paving.

Brett Landscaping’s products successfully addressed the challenge of heavy-duty loadings on the running aisles and storage areas, typical of a busy port. The Zeta Lock paving solution provided resilience against the daily trafficking of containers and port equipment. The logistical challenge of supplying blocks to site at the required pace was efficiently managed, with Tolly Paving installing significant volumes of paving per day in order to cover the extensive Berth areas within the port itself.

Mark Pointer of Tolly Paving emphasised the unique attributes of Zeta Lock, stating, “Zeta Lock block paving from Brett Landscaping was the clear product solution that could effectively withstand the high level of heavy goods trafficking and rotational movements of the reach stackers on the dockside. Ease of installation and maintenance, combined with its ability to tolerate a degree of differential settlement of the pavement and the confidence in a supplier that could deliver such significant volumes of paving within the strict project timescales.”
