Last year Brett collaborated with Telford and Wrekin Council to transform Market Street, Wellington, and improve the high street experience for residents and visitors.

With the council committing £450, 000 to the redevelopment, this project aligned with their wider £35m ‘Pride in Our Community‘ investment programme, aimed at creating a better borough through investments that protect, care, and connect neighbourhoods.

The Client

The project involved pavement resurfacing, widening the footpath, replacing kerbs, and installing new drainage with the aim of improving the aesthetics and accessibility of the area.

The council sought a solution that would enhance the town centre while still maintaining a one-way system with parking for shoppers and loading provisions for local businesses.

The Challenge

The redevelopment presented several challenges. The chosen solution needed to withstand the high volume of pedestrian traffic while maintaining its visual appeal.

The council required a paving solution that would offer longevity, durability, and vibrant colours to create a welcoming environment. The integration of the drainage system with the road kerbs required careful planning and expertise to ensure a seamless and fully functional result.

The Solution

The council selected our Invicta block paving, which was specified for its exceptional qualities. Invicta’s unique ‘Agg Tech’ surface layer offers a hardwearing surface that can withstand the heavy footfall in the town centre while retaining its vivid colour.

Our technical team recommended Invicta Pearl (60mm) block paving to be used in conjunction with Onyx 80mm pavers. The colour schemes complemented each other extremely well, further enhancing the visual appeal.

Our design team produced bespoke cross sections for the installation of the drainage channel block and its integration with the road kerbs. The channels run from the shop fronts to the conservation kerb and acted as a demarcation and rigid lateral restraint across the footpaths. This required bedding in mortar to take up the differences in the depth of the blocks.

All Brett block paving is fully compliant with British Standards for physical performance ratings, BREEAM ratings, sustainability credentials, and Responsible Sourcing Certifications.
