Brett Landscaping has been recognised for its commitment to employee safety by winning the \u2018Occupational Health and Safety\u2019 award at the recent Mineral Products Association (MPA) Health and Safety Awards 2018.<\/p>\n
The production team at Barrow-upon-Soar, Leicestershire, collected the award on 7 November at the prestigious ceremony at 30 Euston Square, London. The judges were impressed by the team\u2019s thorough approach when conducting a full review of the production process leading to the design of a new system which would dramatically reduce health and safety risks on the factory floor.<\/p>\n
The previous plant equipment had carrier moulds which could only have curves in two dimensions, however, the Trief and Kassel kerbs produced by Brett Landscaping are curved in three dimensions. This meant that around 1000tpa of kerbs had to be cast in floor moulds, which required significant manual effort and coordination when handling the kerbs which can weigh up to 170kg.<\/p>\n
Brett Landscaping identified the most commonly sawn sizes of kerb and worked with local mould suppliers Olympic Moulds and Dixon Engineering to develop new plant equipment which allows three-dimensional kerbs to be cast mechanically, reducing manual handling by up to 90%.<\/p>\n
John Firth, Production Manager at Brett Landscaping\u2019s Barrow-upon-Soar site commented: \u201cThe Trief and Kassel production team have really worked hard to build and grow these ideas into a reality.<\/p>\n

Brett Landscaping were also \u2018Highly Commended\u2019 in the \u2018Engineering Initiative \u2013 Elimination of Hot Works\u2019 category for replacing welded components with bolt-on components in a Rumbler Drum used for distressing bricks in their Poole factory. Replacing the components has meant operatives no longer need to use hot works within a confined space on a regular basis, improving health and safety within the factory.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
