Project: Lidl Distribution Centre
Client: MJMC
Product: Trief GST2A
Size: 2,500 Units
Brett Landscaping supplied more than 2,500 raised kerb units to serve a new major regional distribution centre for fast-growing supermarket chain, Lidl.
The £50million development is situated on the Doncaster iPort logistics estate, and is the hub for more than 53 supermarket stores based across South Yorkshire, the Midlands and Lincolnshire. With more than 3,900 pallets leaving the site via HGV each day to supply the supermarket network – the road system around the site needed a protective set of barriers that could withstand the persistent heavy goods traffic using the site.
Brett Landscaping’s commercial specification team supplied 2,500 Trief GST2A kerb units for the perimeter of the large distribution centre building, site entrance points and to protect the security booths against accidental vehicle impacts from damaging the structures.
The Brett Landscaping team worked with the Consulting Engineers MJMC to provide support and technical advice on unit positioning and installation, assist with product take off and to develop the delivery schedule that worked with the requirements of overall site developer Winvic. Both designers and developer were provided with drawings for the construction of steps within the Trief kerb runs to allow pedestrian access to the security booths along with detailing to allow the security gates to open safely into recesses along the line of kerbs. The project was completed in 2018.
The Trief GST2 Kerbs have a proven record for protecting structures, verges and pedestrians from vehicles as part of traffic control measures by reducing traffic speeds and as a visual and physical deterrent to deliberate incursion.
Furthermore they can be supplied with pre-drilled dowel holes for added integrity of the final installation.
The Trief GST2A Containment Kerb system has been independently tested by the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) and is BS EN 1317 – 2 compliant providing a containment level of N1 and an impact severity level of ‘A’ rating (Report Number TRL068).
