For Brett, success and environmental concern go hand in hand. The sensitive way in which we design, manage and work our land consistently receives positive recognition and acclaim.

Quarries, for instance, are restored to the highest standards as work progresses. Our aim is to provide benefits to the environment and to promote biodiversity. As pressure on our countryside and coastline increases, so does our commitment to protecting our heritage.

A measure of our success in this area is Brett Aggregates winning, in 2004 and 2005, the premier restoration award in the quarrying industry. The Cooper Heyman Cup. In the thirty years since the Quarry Products Association introduced this award, it has only actually been presented 23 times, demonstrating that a particularly high standard is needed to succeed.

Quarries can be transformed into secure environments. With correct planning, design, construction and management, they can offer a great opportunity for sport, recreation and education for large sections of the community. Our work at the Church Lammas site featured below is a good example of what can be achieved.

Working in collaboration and consultation with government, the disabled and also with wildlife and industry organisations, Brett has proved that once quarrying work comes to an end, attractive and accessible open spaces for all can be achieved.

The Quarry Products Association has developed a virtual quarry website that provides an interactive experience for youngsters and a substantial resource for teachers. The virtual quarry is staffed by a team of animated characters who talk you through the rock production process. Along the way you can take the wheel of the rock delivery truck as it heads back to to the quarry, blow up rock, examine fossils and transform an old quarry into a nature reserve.
