Phoenix Community SchoolCelebrating the best in the borough’s built environment, the Ashford Building Design and Construction Awards handpicked a Provian Construction project, the Phoenix Community School, for two coveted prizes.

Phoenix Community School Previously held seperately, it was the first time that the Construction and Design sections of the award had been held together. The Phoenix Community School triumphed in both sections of the competition, winning the Construction Award for Best Educational Building and the Design Award for Best Public / Community Building.

The Construction award cited Provian Construction for its detailed pre-works discussions and planning that led to a smoothly run construction. Furthering this, the award noted the firm “project team approach which resulted is a quality school and community facilities that are a valuable asset to all.”

In Design, architects CTM were praised for the striking use of colour and form that has created a vibrant learning environment with a strong sense of identity.

With locally prominent members of the construction industry attending the ceremony, along with members of Ashford Borough Council’s building and planning divisions, the evening proved a great success. The awards were presented by the Mayor of Ashford, Cllr John Holland, and Ashford Borough Council Executive John Bunnett.

The Phoenix Community School came up against stiff competition from a range of innovative and exciting projects that exemplify the best of design and construction in the area. Tim Parrett, Head of Building Control at Ashford Borough Council, commented, “it was a pleasure to give deserved recognition to local companies and building projects of all shapes and sizes. We have seen some shining examples of excellent workmanship.”

The Phoenix Community School is a source of exceptional pride to Provian Construction. It has demonstrated the capacity of Provian to manage and deliver the most ambitiously designed strutures within the educational built environment. The brace of awards taken by the project stands as testament to that fact. It is also a further example of an ever growing portfolio of ambitious projects in the company’s home county of Kent.
